Critiques and Changes: Power Rangers Mystic Force

Critiques
For the past couples of days, I've been re-watching Power Rangers Mystic Force and out of the 32 episodes of the season, I only found a handful of the episodes enjoyable.

Nick-centric
I'm not saying I completely hated the season, I just found that this season had a lot of flaws. For one, the only ranger to have focus is Nick, The Red Ranger. I know that Power Rangers is a series that gives a lot of focus to the Red Ranger but my gosh he had a lot of focus. The first seven episodes of the season had the main focus on Nick. Even the episodes that look like they're going to focus on another ranger ended up turning into a Nick focus episode. Let's take the episode Code Busters for example. The episode starts with Vida, The Pink Ranger and Chip, The Yellow Ranger getting character development and halfway through the episode, Nick becomes the main focus. It wouldn't be bad if Nick was an interesting character to focus on but he was a really boring character. I think the first episode of the season that I actually liked was Strangers Within which was the first episode that had the focus on two other rangers.

Minority Rules
Another aspect of the season that I didn't like for this season was the large cast of comedic relief characters. In this season, we have FIVE comedic relief characters which are Clare, Phineas, Jenji,Toby, and Leelee. I wouldn't have a problem with this if the rangers were well developed but this season has the comedic relief characters getting more development than the rangers. I just felt that Bruce Kalish and co. wanted to write a mythical fantasy show and they used Power Rangers to fulfill their wishes.

Changes
I really like the premise for Mystic Force but the focus isn't on the rangers, they're on the side characters . If I was in charge of this season, I would have done a complete overhaul and given the characters a greater sense of development.

Mystic Lineage
For one, the Mystic Warriors were an interesting concept in the first episode that should have been executed more to tie the story together. I would have made all the rangers be offspring to the Mystic Warriors and were sent to the Human Realm like Nick was. Even Clare was connected to the great war being The Gatekeeper's daughter. It would've made them connected to the past war and made it easier to develop the story and the characters. A good plot device I would have put in the show would be the rangers trying to live up to their parents lineage.

Ancient Titans
Also, the "Ancient Titans" would have been a stronger concept within the show. They would have been the teachers to the Mystic Warrior instead of Snow Prince which didn't really make that much sense. They would have also been the one's that gave the rangers their Legend Warrior Powers.

Character Connecton
Another aspects that I would have added was a connection between the characters. I would've kept the situation between Nick and Koragg but would've made it more interesting. Nick would be under the influence that Koragg was the one who defeated Lianbow in the great war and the reason why Nick fights Koragg constantly is to avenge his fathers defeat but in reality, Koragg was Nick's father.

Vida and Necrolai
In the episode "Stranger Within" Necrolai turns Vida into a vampire. I would have given Necrolai a backstory where she had a fierce rivalry with Pink Mystic Warrior and in present day, she would've had one with Vida as well.

Daggeron and Calindor
An aspect of the show I would've pushed further would be the backstory between Daggeron and Calindor. I would've made Daggeron and Calindor brothers. Calindor would've been tempted to the dark side because Daggeron was the better fighter and was more revered by the creatures of the forest so he chooses the side of evil to get from under his brother shadow.

 Daggeron and Madison
We all know that Madison had the least amount of character development out of all the rangers. Since the sentai footage had a lot of interaction between Blue Mystic Ranger and Solaris Knight, I would have made Daggeron Madison's father. It would make sense to do this with all the interaction between the characters in the Sentai footage and Madison running to Daggeron frantically in Mystic Fate Part II would make more sense. I would also not make Vida and Madison sisters cause those two being siblings didn't really do anything to further the plot.

 Conclusion
To conclude, I think Mystic Force was an average season but it had many plot holes. I think if the writers wrote the rangers in greater depth, Mystic Force could've had great potential and would be more respected in my eyes and the rest of the fandoms eyes.
